Successful 2019 Call to Service: Cleanup at the V

NEW HAVEN, CT (Nov. 9, 2019)–About two dozen veterans and friends gathered at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park on Long Wharf Ave. in New Haven, CT, to beautify the five war monuments facing New Haven Harbor.

Thank you to the City of New Haven for providing mums, trash bags, rakes and for taking great care of the V year-round. Elements of the Yale Veterans Network, the American Legion New Haven Post 210, the National Veterans Council for Legal Redress (NVCLR), the SCSU Veterans Association, and the VFW New Haven Post 12150 contributed to the clean-up.

Additional thanks for Chairman Lori Rasile of the Americanism Committee of the American Legion New Haven Post 210 for organizing this twice-annual beautification event.

Celebrate Veterans Day 2019 with a FREE coffee and serving of creamed beef on a biscuit at the Trinity Bar & Restaurant on Monday, November 11, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Sponsored by the VFW New Haven Post 12150, the American Legion New Haven Post 210, and the Trinity Bar & Restaurant, the SOS breakfast will honor our military veterans by offering them a serving of the popular military breakfast staple, free of charge.

Celebrated Trinity Chef and Co-Owner Shane Carty will prepare the SOS based on the recipe in the 1942 edition of The Army Cook (TM 10-405). As this is the first year of the SOS breakfast, the offer is limited to 50 servings but it is open to military veterans, current service members, and cadets (especially at UNH, Yale, and Hillhouse High School JROTC).

Additionally, veterans are invited to attend the New Haven City Veterans Day Ceremonies at 11:00 a.m. at the Center Church Parish House (311 Temple St. New Haven) with a subsequent cash-bar reception at Trinity after the wreath-laying ceremony at the Great War Flagpole on the Green.

American Legion Magazine Mention

American Legion New Haven Post 210 was featured in the November 2019 American Legion Magazine. The article spotlighted four of the 56 Team 100 Posts chartered in the centennial year (2018-2019).

Post-9/11 veterans deserve to have a local and vibrant veterans community that looks like them, knows their issues, and stands with them. The young veterans of Post 210 are so new to the American Legion and to being actual veterans, they really aren’t sure what they hope to accomplish. But a few things are clear: they stick together, they look out for each other, and they know they are building something important for themselves, for fellow veterans of all ages, and for our community.
