#VetHikes are free & informal hikes around greater New Haven, Connecticut with some veterans and friends for a couple of hours.

Our popular hikes include:

A low-key, brisk, but level 6.2-mile jaunt around historic New Haven Harbor. Assemble at the “V” war monument on Long Wharf.
A flat 5.2 mile urban loop around the West River with stops at six local war memorials. Assemble on street by Connecticut Tennis Center (45 Yale, Ave. New Haven, CT).
Stops include:
• 102nd Infantry Tablet, Yale Baseball
• Defenders’ Monument, Columbus Ave.
• Knight Hospital Monument, Evergreen Cemetery
• Cornelius S. Bushnell Monument, Monitor Park
• Timothy Ahearn Monument, West River Park
• Spanish-American War Monument, Edgewood Park
[Soldiers’ Memorial Gateway, Beecher Park may be included]
A scenic 3.1 mile Observation Tower Trail hike at Sleeping Giant State Park. Assemble in parking lot (200 Mount Carmel Ave., Hamden, CT).

#VetHike SOP:
There is no service, medical, or straggler support; no drugs/alcohol, no angry/aggressive dogs, no whining, no weapons, and no religious or partisan political stuff, please. Coffee, camaraderie, friendly pets, and student veteran groups are welcome.

Uniform is weather and hiking appropriate gear.
Military-themed outwear is encouraged for service members and veterans.
